Bio

Isabel is a freelance bid writer specializing in technical and engineering contracts, critical national infrastructure such as rail and road construction and maintenance, defense, communications, and technology. She also helps social enterprises and charities to submit funding applications on a pro bono basis. Isabel organized all the APMP evening training events across the UK between 2009 and 2016, having previously been on the membership team. Since then, she has worked with the University of Hertfordshire to include an APMP module in their new MSc degree course in Marketing Strategy.

Previously she worked as a technical marketing manager for a US-based international biotech company, held a number of sales positions, and was also a PR account manager.

At home, Isabel prefers the outdoors, volunteering with local wildlife groups, riding, and also trying to improve her fencing technique.

What does being an APMP Fellow mean to you?

One never thinks that one deserves this level of approbation and being granted a Fellowship was a complete shock, but it makes me proud of my contribution to what is still a blossoming profession. I only hope to live up to it.

What's your best memory from attending an APMP event?

My first US Conference - coming into the main conference hall and seeing so many people and the exciting audio-visual displays - made me feel we'd grown up!

What advice do you have for a proposal professional entering our field?

Never hesitate to ask for help from your colleagues and others in the profession. I've always found a huge well of encouragement and expertise ready to be generously given.

Without APMP, I would not have the tools or knowledge of the industry to have the career I have today and the success I have experienced.

Being an active APMP certified practitioner allowed me to recognize my hidden potential multifold (40u40, BPC Awards, BPC Speaker) and give back to the profession through the APMP community.

Acquiring the executive summary micro certification has helped to build my confidence in producing best practice Executive Summaries. I also benefit from the social media badge for my LinkedIn profile and certification to add to my resume. Both of these allow me to verify my Executive Summary capabilities.

APMP certification is the gold standard for the industry. For me, accreditation is formal recognition of my commitment to the profession, as well as an avenue for improving my performance and bid outcomes by training in APMP principles.

I would advise new professionals to take advantage of the resources that APMP offers. Not only do you have access to conferences and seminars through your chapter, but the free webinars and the robust network of professionals are great benefits that can help advance one’s career.
