What does being an APMP Fellow mean to you?
The association plays an important role in developing a career path for individuals who are passionate about bids and tenders. "It is a certain type of person who enjoys winning business, and APMP has the tools and networking for one to develop your career". APMP created a career for me when I needed it most, and it has been an amazing journey. I have received and contributed to APMP, and I am a true ambassador of the Association. Being nominated as a Fellow was truly an honor.
What's your best memory from attending an APMP event?
My most memorable event was the very first event that I attended, the NCA Chapter conference, where I was a guest speaker from the South Africa Chapter. I was hosted by the then Chair, Brenda Crist. She was the most amazing host, and she went out of her way to make me feel welcome. She was also very instrumental in guiding me to my Practitioner Certification. To speak for the first time to a knowledgeable audience was intimidating, with the likes of Mike Parkinson in attendance, who provided great reassurance afterward. This whole experience highlighted how important this association is to our development and the support we could receive. I learned many lessons and was able to share them with the SA Chapter as we grew.
What advice do you have for a proposal professional entering our field?
I would encourage you to join the association, where you can meet like-minded individuals who provide support and reassurance. Always remember to pay it forward as you grow and benefit others who may be starting this career. You will love it.
