Bio

Nigel has been called a proposal pioneer in Australia for his work in shaping the professional bidding landscape in the region. He has three decades of proposal consulting experience and has trained thousands of people. Nigel started the APMP Australia New Zealand Chapter, runs Australia’s largest specialist bid consultancy, and is a strong advocate for the development of the profession.

In his spare time, Nigel plays trombone in an 18-piece swing band, tinkers in his shed and garden, loves sport, and is a father to four boys.

What's your best memory from attending an APMP event?

The friendships formed.

What advice do you have for a proposal professional entering our field?

If you love winning, writing, and shaping the fortunes of organizations, this is the career for you. It's as close to the competitive sport as you can get in business. Be passionate, yearn for knowledge, and back your judgment.

 

Receiving Practitioner-level certification boosted my confidence and validated my experiences and professional growth in the bid and proposal industry. This topic, Executive Summaries, is way underrated. The Executive Summary is the most eye-catching document, which almost everyone on the customer side reads. Yet, in most bid teams, we don’t dedicate the attention it deserves. I want to learn about something I can immediately put into practice at my workplace, which provides a “quick win” to the team and is a long-term benefit for the company.
